Estimating
the Child Care Workforce
According
to a new study, 2.3 million people are caring for children
other than their own from birth to five years old. These include center-based
providers (24%), family child care providers (28%),
paid relatives (35%), and paid non-relatives (13%).
In
addition, there are 2.4 million people caring for young children
who are unpaid. These include unpaid relatives (93%),
unpaid non-relatives (5%), and volunteers (2%).
